ABOUT THE BOOK: “It was everything I could do to breathe when his gaze fell to my lips. Her perilous stare left me without words. It was the very way a lover left you speechless with a passing glance. But Declan didn’t just take a glimpse. He hardly blinked as he stepped closer, like he WANTED all space between us eliminated. Simultaneously, I gravitated towards him and wanted to run away. Everything I thought I knew about love and hate was destroyed in a heartbeat. The two were opposing feelings, but now I wasn’t so sure. And it was all because of HIM.”
In the swarm of chaos, neither he nor I moved. Time stood on end, waiting for one of us to react to the other. His body stiffened to the point where I wasn’t sure if he was breathing anymore. Was I? “Emelie?” The deepness of his voice cascaded through me like the tiny ripples in dark water.
REVIEW: Readers who love twisted fairytale retellings will not be able to put this short story down. The author’s writing style and her dark stories are both entertaining and enigmatic. Declan Stilts and Emilie have a warped past which causes a conflicted future for Emilie’s daughter, Piper. When Emilie finally realizes that she has nothing left to give other than the soul of her first born child in exchange for the love of her life—she agrees without hesitation. Emilie is truly one vile woman, but Declan preys on her misery like a plague.
After Piper is born, Declan knows that he must wait until she is of age before he can take what is his. He has always been watching her from a distance, but after bumping into her—he realizes that the tables have been flipped and he could quiet possibly have something to fear. But what would Rumpelstiltskin ever have to fear from a young woman like Piper?
