Review: Rapture at Midnight by Isobelle Cate

ABOUT THE BOOK: Book 1 in The Cynn Cruors Bloodline Series

There is an on-going war between two breeds of immortal warriors who carry human, vampire, and werewolf blood, the Cynn Cruor and the Scatha Cruor. The Cynn Cruor wants to live in harmony with the human race. The Scatha Cruor wants to enslave them. Finn Qualtrough, a Cynn Cruor warrior is on a mission to find Dac Valerian, the leader of the Scatha Cruor responsible for the deaths of many, including his parents. When he pursues three Scatha warriors who can lead him to Dac, he happens upon a woman who awakens a desire within Quinn to claim her as his own. She is the very essence of his immortal life. Eirene Spence is an insomniac and a computer genius who loves walking in the park at midnight. She stumbles upon the Scatha Cruor and is almost killed until a handsome stranger rescues her. His touch ignites a hunger inside her that only he can satisfy. He is her soul. By some twist of fate, one of Eirene’s clients is Dac Valerian. She is able to tell Finn and the rest of the Cynn Cruor where Dac is hiding. Now Dac wants her dead.

REVIEW: Rapture at Midnight is hot and steamy! It begins with a memory of Finn as a boy, watching his parents leave for their final battle of good verses evil. As a man, Finn has dedicated himself to searching and destroying the Scatha Cruor. He has endlessly hunted the one responsible for his parent’s death; however, one woman can bring him closer than he has ever been before. Eirene Spence has courage, beauty and intelligence. Finn finds Eirene during a chase and protects her from three of the Scatha Cruor. Little does he know that she may be something more than just coincidence.
My favorite character in this story is Finn. He is supposed to be this sexy, strong, courageous warrior-type vampire/werewolf breed who has been siding with humans for generations. He has always been truthful to everyone who is around as well as loyal. I liked Eirene; however, I found that her character was a little predictable. I also enjoying reading about the mysterious Roarke; his character shows some pain and respect when Finn introduces Eirene to the pack.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading fantasy and erotica. This is definitely not for anyone under the age of eighteen due to sexual content and violence. I rate this with five stars because it is original, creative, extensive in detail and captivating. Even though I was able to guess the ending of the story, it was intriguing to read.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Hello, I’m Isobelle. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I’m a woman who wears different masks.  Mother-writer, wife-professional, scholar-novelist. Living in the United Kingdom, I have been drawn to the little known, the secret stories, about the people and the nations:  the English, the Irish, the Scots, the Welsh, and those who are now part of these nations whatever their origins.  My vision and passion are fuelled by my interest and background in history and paradoxically, shaped by growing up in a clan steeped in lore, loyalty, and legend. You will notice from my stories that I am intrigued by forces that simmer beneath the surface of these cultures, the hidden passions, unsaid desires, and yearnings unfulfilled.

That is my official bio. Honestly? I’m just an ordinary woman who loves reading, letting the words flow through me and lift me up. I like baking snickerdoodles and Russian tea cakes. My son loves baking them too, well at least after licking the batter off the bowl. Ha! I make a mean beef stew derived from my grandmother’s secret recipe. Except for my Uncle and me, no one knows exactly how it’s done. I love swimming though I don’t get to do that much now. Someday, I’d like to go back to it.

I do love myths and legends, love watching documentaries, and I do belong to a huge clan that is scattered across North America, Oceania, and Asia. Now that I’m living in the UK, add Europe.

Another thing that I love? To hear from you. So drop me a message when you can through my contact page and I will definitely reply.
