Review: Neverland Evermore by Sarah J Pepper
Neverland Evermore Blurb:
Neverland has a way of breaking people. It corrupts souls. It destroys hope. The evil festering inside it brings out the darkness in our hearts and leaves us worse than dead. No good has ever come from it. Ever. It is where I was born. Therefore, darkness is all I know. Corruption is in my bones. So when I see him, I mean to win his heart and then break him. I mean to lure him to my arms and then destroy him. But it is his intentions and his wicked smile that deter me…at least until a lost soul from my past catches up with us. My world ignites into flames. My love’s sinks to the depths of the sea. We are from two different worlds that overlap for a brief moment in time. But it is that moment which carries me forward. It is that moment in which he lives in the past. It is that moment in which I embrace my true nature and seek vengeance against those responsible for feeding his hand to that godforsaken crocodile.
I once thought the most wicked thing I had ever done was trap a soul in Neverland, but I was mistaken. Oh, how my heart ached when Michael made his confession. I don’t wish to bring them back. I wish to join them. If I could change the past, I would, but I wasn’t strong enough for that. Not now. I could barely work a firefly spell, but at least it worked.
When you are cursed to corrupt those around you, just by your mere presence…what do you do? The object of your desires become minute and a price is on your head because of the very place that you were born. The job is the only thing that matters, but what if you wanted to defy that because you no longer want to be the route of others’ eternal suffering. Pepper wraps her readers up into a cocoon of infinite possibility, where monsters are real and Neverland is obtainable. Neverland Evermore is another wonderfully written twisted fairy-tale from Sarah J Pepper, derived from the original tale of Peter Pan.
Ms. Bell, has been out floating in the ocean for a long time, waiting for the son of Davy Jones to come sailing by on his ship, the Jolly Roger. Her original plan is to seduce him and lead him back to Neverland, where souls are trapped for eternity…but there is a change in the game plan. Ms. Bell and Captain James are enraptured with each other—at first, it is a dance of wills and then a fierce loyalty grows out of the depth of a long still loneliness. With an unwanted detour to the place of her birth, she realizes only too late that their lives could be changed forever. After Michael sees the unthinkable, a fin attached to the most beautiful creature that he has ever laid eyes upon, the corruption begins. It warps the minds of those aboard the ship, casting Captain James to his death and Ms. Bell at the mercy of none other than the evil boy who came upon the ship after the last port stop…Peter Pan. The only thing left to do is to exact revenge for her beloved Captain, but how can Ms. Bell escape when her wings have been ripped from her skin and what little magic she has left might not be enough?
Neverland Evermore is written very well and the author does a superb job with character development. Pepper’s tale is one of vast creativity. Taking one tale that is very well known and twisting the characters into opposite counterparts of the original…is just the very beginning. This author takes her twisted fairy-tale and provides a story that is unpredictable, riveting and absolutely mesmerizing. If you are a reader of fairy-tales and dark fantasy, you may want to pick this book up—but fair warning…it may be difficult to put back down.
