Book Information

Hate… Anger… Distrust… it fed the animal.

Status… Money… Power it’s all women want.

Never yield… Never give them a piece of who you are.

These were the ideals that Seth Montgomery had lived with since he was a child. After his mother abandoned their family for another man, the same man who took everything from Seth’s father, Seth’s life turned dark. He’d never give a woman all that control. He’d never give them the satisfaction of destroying his heart.

Tiffany Webster had been falling in love with one man for the past three years. Her boss’s best-friend. The day Seth walked into her bar, the day his steel blue eyes met hers, she was hooked. But, Seth Montgomery was unattainable, and only into one night hook-ups with a certain type of girl. A girl Tiffany was not.

Tiffany was the one girl Seth had ever considered breaking his rules for, but swore he’d never corrupt.

Until one night… when everything fell apart… and hidden truths surfaced.

When your past hurts so much it makes it hard to breathe and your heart ache, what else can you do? What path should you take to feel something, trust someone again?

Two hearts… two souls… align…

One shift… one break… and you’re falling.

Feel this… trust this…

Survive this.

The House on Seventh Street by Karen Vorbeck Williams

Book Information

Cover FileWinna returns to her father’s last residence, an 87-year-old mansion in her Colorado hometown, to settle his estate and sell the house her grandfather built. As Winna shares memories with her married daughter, reconciles with her disinherited sister Chloe, and becomes reacquainted with old classmates, the old house gives up its secrets. A handwritten will, old love letters, an unfinished story in a notebook, and a diamond ring hidden among her childhood marbles, call into question everything Winna knows about her beloved grandmother. Then come footsteps on the stairs, numerous break-ins, her car’s brake failure on a mountain road, a fall down the basement stairs. Someone is trying to kill Winna. She can’t begin to think it is her sister or Todd, Chloe’s handsome new husband. Could it be her high school boyfriend John or the local handyman she’s hired?

The House on Seventh Street was inspired by the Nancy Drew mysteries the author loved as a child. This book has a wonderfully written mixture of mystery and women’s fiction that will indulge any lover of both genres.

About the Author

Author PhotoKAREN VORBECK WILLIAMS began writing as a girl–short stories, poems, and little essays on her beliefs.

In the 70s, when her family moved to seven acres of land in Southeastern Massachusetts, into a farmhouse built in 1710, she wanted to learn more about how the people who first settled the land actually lived. As her family restored the old rooms and removed the paint from the wide pine board floors, Karen realized that her house had been built before her 11th great grandmother Mary Bliss Parsons (1625?-1712) had died. She had lived in Northampton, MA, probably in a house quite similar to Karen and her family. It was there that she was accused of witchcraft. Northampton was about a two-hour drive from Karen’s house. Gradually she began to research her life and found an amazing story. The result was the historical novel “My Enemy’s Tears: The Witch of Northampton.”
Karen’s second book “The House on Seventh Street” was inspired by the Nancy Drew Mysteries that she loved as a girl. The book is set in the town where she was born and is based on a number of memories from her youth as well as family stories and myths. She was writing fiction which gave her the liberty to exaggerate these stories and tell whopping lies if that would improve the plot or deepen the characters’ motivations.

On the personal side, Karen is a widow and grandmother, an avid amateur photographer, and master gardener. At the moment, she is working on her third novel–again historical fiction set in 17th century New England–and a book of short stories.

CIA courier Lucy James never gets used to seeing innocent people killed, but she copes with it—every day. Cursed with the ability to glimpse into the future when a death is about to happen, she has a short window of time to interfere—risking her life in order to change it. No one knows about her curse, until she saves a handsome Los Angeles firefighter trapped between her and foreign operatives hell-bent on intercepting her current assignment.

LA firefighter Johnny Cartwright’s life changes the moment he meets Lucy. His uncomplicated days flip to dangerously unpredictable after he’s drawn deeper into her secretive world of premonitions. His attraction to Lucy grows as he helps her stop a terroristic plot against the U.S., putting his life between her and certain death.

Lucy gasped as a phantom, icy wind swept across her face, leaving gooseflesh skittering down her arms in its ghostly wake. She knew the sickly cold sensation went unfelt by anyone except her. It was a precursor to a phenomenon she’d known since she was a young child—a warning that someone was about to be killed.
“It’s happening!” a quiet voice in Lucy’s head whispered.
Her surroundings faded to the ominous dark grays, blacks, and slippery silvers she’d grown used to over the years. Just as quickly, the din of the busy lobby below disappeared, as if some unseen hand muted the sound. All motion stood still, lifeless, except for the four firefighters and one woman walking up toward her. They were draped in vivid, surrealistic color and still moving. It was as if a huge, frameless window encased them, and Lucy could peer into it to see their promised deaths.
Two of those men were in conversation with the young woman, making her laugh. Another man listened on his cell phone. The fourth firefighter still smiled up at Lucy. Movement from below drew her stare past him. A big man, dressed in a gray, three-piece suit, stepped into the window and was instantly bathed in intense color. Lucy watched him, fearing his importance to what was about to happen. He had his hand tucked inside his jacket, reaching for something as he began his climb up the winding stairs. His eyes were hidden behind mirrored Ray-Ban sunglasses, but his face pointed up in her direction.
The man’s movements were swift. With every step, his countenance changed. His mouth pulled into a hard, flat line, with the corners lifting in a perverse smile, as he moved his hand out from under his jacket. Lucy caught sight of the gun in his fist before the bodies of the five people between them blocked it from view. In deadly silence, one after another, the unsuspecting civilians received a bullet in their back, sending them face down onto the steps in front of her. When the man lifted the gun toward Lucy—the window disappeared.
Things changed.
Time rewound.
Everything that was once in black and white rebounded in color. The sound returned. Time was short and precious if she wanted to change what she’d just witnessed. The five people who were heartlessly cut down in front of her were alive again—or, rather, hadn’t been killed.

Loving Liam (Book One: The Cloverleaf Series)
B&N ~ Goodreads ~ Amazon ~ FREE on Kindle Unlimted
I was born and raised in southern California and relocated to beautiful eastern Washington state in 2002. The rural small towns that speckle this vast area have inspired my ideal setting for most of the stories I write. The pine and tamarack trees covering the towering mountains, the shimmering lakes and rivers, the abundant wildlife, and the feeling of a time forgotten, all stir so many of my creative juices. I can’t thank my parents enough for dragging this city kid on long roadtrips up to this rugged foreign area, because now it is my home and I truly love my life here.
Reading was something that spurred me to begin writing at a young age. I enjoyed creating characters, different settings, and describing anything and everything. Storytelling, I have found is something I have inherited from both of my parents. I love attention to detail, using words to fully bring the picture alive, that is something I got from my dad. Creating characters and figuring out their story and how to achieve their happy ending comes from my mom. Then there is the smell of a book, new or old, the weight of it in your hands as you balance it open, seeing all those beautifully typed words spun and woven into sentences, this was created by a writer. I knew that was what I wanted to be when I grew up and here I am today, a real author.
Romance, I simply love it, that’s why I write it. I remember my mom giving me my very first paperback romance novel. It was a pretty exciting one filled with suspense and an overall excellent storyline, she had just read it and she felt it was suitable for my teenage eyes. That was it, I was hooked. I began to devour these romance stories that varied over the years from sweet to sultry, I consumed thousands of books and stories over the years. Each time I finished reading a novel, the desire to write my own grew stronger. As ideas for books swirled in my mind, it always had a romantic element to it, and I suppose it always will. What is there not to love about falling in love and finding that special person to share your life with? Who doesn’t wish for passion, butterflies in your stomach, and that happily ever after?
As a reader, I can’t even begin to thank all of the writers that have created so many emotions for me, falling in love with characters, mourning their loss, sighing as I close the final chapter or smiling when everyone lives happily ever after. As a writer, I just want to do the same.

Cutter’s Hope by A.J. Downey

Title: Cutter’s Hope
Series: The Virtues Trilogy
Author: A.J. Downey
Genre: MC Romance
Release Date: January 5th 2016
Cutter had given up on finding a woman when Hope sauntered right into his bar. With her straight talk, toned figure and military training, she can disarm a man in more ways than one. But the mission she’s on will shake up Cutter’s world.
Hope’s lost her younger sister, but she hasn’t lost her namesake. It’s been almost two years since Faith vanished, but Hope hasn’t given up the search. She’ll either find her sister or some answers.
Can Cutter keep his club out of trouble and help the siren in his bar on her mission?
One can only hope…

“Atlas!” I shouted a few minutes after Hope sashayed that sweet, perfectly toned, ass out of my bar. My club’s secretary jogged into the room a half second later.
“Yeah Captain?” he asked.
“Find out everything you can about that girl that was just in here. Said her name was Hope and she’s stayin’ down at the Nautilus,” I said to him but my eyes were fixed on where she’d been.
She was a girl on fire, and I damn sure wanted to know what she wanted with the girl from the picture. I’d recognized her alright. Wasn’t no way I was going to tell that cool drink of water though, not with how that run went straight to hell in so many ways.
“Aye, aye, Captain.”
“Send Tiny back here,” I told him when he turned to tend to the task I’d set him. Atlas gave me a half assed grin and an even sloppier salute. He could tell when I was in a mood and this particular shit show put my mood square in the middle of the black. Tiny didn’t exactly have any fans around these parts and I think the club knew I was reaching the end of the line when it came to my patience with our SAA.
Tiny came in and said, “Wanted to see me Cutter?”
No fucking respect, this one.
“Sit down,” I told him, tone cold. He scowled but complied.
“What’s up?” he asked, crossing his arms over his barrel chest.
“What did I tell you when you came to me about that girl from The Sacred Hearts’ Lake Run, and you told me what you’d done?” I demanded. He scowled.
“Why the hell you bring that up now, Man? That shit’s over and done. It’s been in our rearview over a year now.”
“Answer the fucking question, Tiny,” I grated.
“You said if anyone came looking my ass was on the line and you’d put it to a vote.”
“Put what to a vote?” I demanded. I wanted to fucking make sure we were crystal goddamned clear this time. No mistakes. No fucking up. No Tiny going on his own fucking program.
“My standing as SAA and within the club, period. What the fuck, Man?”
“That’s fucking right, and guess fucking what?” I pointed in the direction of the open bar room door and dropped both feet to the floor, the flip flops slapping loud against the concrete. “Someone, and by the set of her I’d say some sort of LEO, just came looking!”
“Oh Jesus Christ, Man! It’s been over a year, even if she was a fucking cop she ain’t got shit,” he tried to blow it off and I turned my pointing finger to a fist and brought it crashing down on the arm of my chair.
“You don’t get to decide that! Now I kept you on as a favor to Mac but this ain’t his club anymore. It’s mine and you have proven, time and fucking time again that you ain’t interested in falling in line and now you’ve put all of us, every single fucking one of us, in the goddamned hot seat! I told you, consequences, Man.” I crossed my arms while Tiny looked at me poleaxed.
“It ain’t nothing to make this bitch disappear too…”
“Have you learned nothing?” I bellowed, “This isn’t some girl with no family! No, you sit your ass right there.” I pulled my phone out of my cut and dialed Marlin, my VP. He answered on the third ring.
“Marlin, Cutter, we have ourselves a situation. Get your ass and the rest of the council in here pronto.”
“Can you give me a heads up, Man? How bad is it?”
“No; talk when you all get here.” I hung up. The entire dialogue my eyes were locked with Tiny’s watery blue ones and he looked positively mutinous. He was standing alone on the sentiment. Dumb fucking cunt.
“You’re really blowing this shit out of proportion, Cut.”
“We’ll see what your brothers have to say about that.”

about the book(1)

Author PhotoDella Connor (D.E.L. Connor) was born in South Dakota and raised in Southeastern Montana where she acquired a keen appreciation for Western and Native American culture. She moved to Texas as a young adult and acquired her honorary Texan status. She became a registered nurse, a nurse practitioner and eventually earned her PhD in nursing. She still works as a nurse educator and as a nurse practitioner. Her nights and weekends, however, are filled with her stories and books. Her first book, “Spirit Warriors:The Concealing,” was published by Booktrope Publishing in November of 2014. The second book in the series “Spirit Warriors: The Scarring” published on July 21, 2014 and “Spirit Warriors: The Burning” rolled out on September 21, 2015. The Spirit Warriors series will consist of five books and a prequel.

The Spirit Warriors story evolved from a short story she wrote for a college English class in the early 1990’s. The professor read it, loved it and asked her to stay after class and discuss it. During this discussion, he told her that a “dark” story like hers, which was written for older children, would be unmarketable and unsaleable. The story kept floating around in her mind. Finally, J.K. Rowling, Stephenie Meyers and others stepped forward with amazing “dark” stories to create a new genre called Young Adult. The time was finally right for her book. She wrote book 1 in two weeks. It took another year and a half and about a 150 queries all with a “not interested” for her to find a publisher. She found Booktrope and as they say, it’s all history.

Marigny Street – Saving
Angels #1

Do you believe in the power of dreams?

Way down south on Marigny Street in the heart of New Orleans, the land of Catholic intercessions, purgatory, and supernatural superstitions, young Evangeline Chenier dreams of a radiant boy who saves her from a storm. She takes the dream seriously – in her family, dreams are sometimes
more than dreams. Sometimes they foretell the future. Sometimes they create it.

Years later, Eva is no longer the same wistful girl but a hardened woman who no longer believes in dreams. Losing faith in her
gift, she becomes lost in a nightmare of emotion, mourning her son, separating from her husband, and stewing in a dead-end job. And then fate brings her an unlikely surprise: one of the most famous movie stars in the world, Gabriel Roberts.

Caught by something in his eyes, Eva agrees to show him the real Big Easy on his last night in New Orleans—an evening that
turns into four dreamy days spent recapturing lost faith and discovering a love neither expected. Realizing Gabriel is the boy from her childhood dream, Eva must leave everything behind—her husband, her family, her history, and the beautiful city she calls home—and gamble it all for the dream that has saved her on MARIGNY STREET.

I shook my head. “Tell me, Gabriel, what are your dreams about?” “Nothing.  I never dream.”  He shrugged. “Never?” “I’ve never once in my life had a dream.  And I never look in a mirror – or I try my hardest not to anyway.” “Why?”  How could you never dream?  Or look in a mirror? He sighed.  “I believe the only things in this life that can truly show your reflection are the things you love the most in this world.  And I don’t love myself enough to want to look in the mirror.”  He laughed.  “But when I look at you I can see myself perfectly.  And even though I never dream, I do pray.  Do you
want to know what I prayed for before I met you?”
I nodded. “I prayed for an angel – to save me.  I asked for a little help from up above, and now you’re here.  You are cake and ice cream; sugar and spice, and everything nice.  And when you smile, you make me feel the way the world looks when the sun shines through a foggy day.”
All I could do was smile.

Red Dirt Road – Saving Angels #2

The Saving Angels Series continues…

A new cast is introduced, while journeys already taken start to merge with the present, leading you down the old Red Dirt Road. Death has always seemed just one step behind Layla Hill, taking almost everyone she’s ever loved. After she loses the love of her life, Layla vows to never love again—how could she, when she’s a death magnet?

Trying to outrun fate traveling with her uncle Willie and his band, Layla meets Michael Roberts, a beautiful Irish boxer as gentle on the piano as he is brutal in the ring. He proves as relentless in life, fighting for a place in her world even as she pushes him away, trying to protect him from her killer tendencies.

But neither foresees the sinister presence waiting for Layla at the end of the Red Dirt Road.

“Yes, you do.  The games we both play.  The way you constantly run away from me.  How you hide in your office and watch me from afar, from behind the window blind.  Do you need me to point out the indention you’ve made?  I see you, just like you see me when I’m watching and looking for you.  I refuse to love you from afar anymore.  This is ridiculous!”
“No, it’s not!  Yes, okay, I admit, I do watch and dream about you, because it’s the only thing I can do, the only way to keep you safe and satisfy myself.  I refuse to lose you.  I won’t.”
“You’re not going to lose me.  Please, stop putting those thoughts in your head.  I cannot promise you that I’ll live forever, but I’ll try my hardest to stay with you for as long as God’s willing to allow me.”
“Which won’t be long when the universe confuses you for me and takes you from me.”
The honesty was spilling out – slightly slurred but freely given.
“There is no force in the world that could take me away from you.  I was meant for you.  I was created for you.  I can feel it.  I come alive when you’re near me.  Can’t you see that?”
He pulled my face toward his, forcing me to look at him.
“You’re killing me by forcing me away, yet you worry about my life being taken. You can’t see that you’re doing that yourself by pushing me away!  You need to stop living life this way.  You’re wasting your gift.  Before you know it, your life is going to be over and so is mine, and there will be no going back.  So please, it would be an honor to love you, freely, without any hesitation.  You’re going to have to decide, right now: what do you want.  Do you want me to leave?  Or do you want me to stay and love you?  Let me love you!”

The choice seemed so easy – it was either life or death – but I was so confused.
“I don’t know…”
He slammed his hands against the wall.
“Tell me!  What do you want, Layla?”

Lotus Blossom Lane – Saving Angels #3

Life after Yuma was blissful for Layla and Michael.  After the turmoil of the old Red Dirt Road, their journey seemed to be moving them in the right direction, leading them to Ireland, Michael’s birthplace, where history runs deep and secrets run even deeper.  As the road to happily-ever-after leads them down Lotus Blossom Lane, years of entombed history starts to emerge, changing the course of their lives forever.  And the person waiting for them at the end of Lotus Blossom Lane, one of the biggest starts in the world, will bring them to the Crossroads of the Saving Angels Series.

“Can you believe this?” I closed my eyes, and the tiny specks felt like confetti falling delicately on my face.
He turned my face toward his. “Look into my eyes, Mrs. Roberts,” he whispered. “There’s nothing on this earth more gorgeous than you, in this moment. I refuse to take my eyes away from you.” He continued to search my eyes, just as if he was seeing me for the first time. “From this
moment on, you’ll never be alone. Never, for as long as we fly together, will I ever let you fall.” He rested his forehead against mine.
“I love you,” I breathed onto his lips as the snow continued to fall around us, turning the earth bright white in the pitch-black darkness.

The Crossroads– Saving Angels #4

How do you get there, darlin’? Well, na’, you start by taking Brighten Place. Follow that road all the way down to Marigny Street. After you travel a little distance you’ll come to an old Red Dirt Road, and that road will take you even further, to Lotus Blossom Lane, but you’ve already been that way. Na’ you’re exactly where you should be, darlin’. You’ve arrived at The Crossroads of your life.
Gabriel Roberts is the most famous movie star in the world. He has everything one man could ever want. He has everything except the one thing he feels will fulfill his purpose and complete his life. Raphael Rose is dying of pneumonia. As he waits on the waning clock of mortality to chime, he has a story to share. One of star-crossed lovers he has never lost hope for. Two doors down, Madam Catalina has her own story – a shocking past, a love of a lifetime left undone. Locked behind the doors of Charity Hospital during Hurricane Evangeline, the tangling of souls has unraveled and left each of them at the crossroads of their life. And in the end, whichever road they choose will lead them home.

But there is a charge between us that cannot be ignored. It’s too strong, and there seems to be a light created from the two of us. I don’t know if it’s the tension of issues, the heat, all of the strange occurrences and discoveries over the last couple of hours, or all of the above, but I throw myself on her.
I crush my mouth against hers, forcing her back to the wall. A slight moan escapes her mouth as she pulls me closer, runs her hands through my hair. She leaps up, her legs wrapping around my waist, her hands somehow lifting my shirt. The momentum sends me crashing into the shelf behind us. Things fall around us in disarray. But nothing else matters. She has something I desperately need.
I feel her body, all of it, her tender flesh, her nirvana curves as I run my lips back and forth against the base of her throat. I can feel the beat of the pulse beneath her skin throbbing against me. I can taste the salty sweat on her skin, but it’s mixed with sweetness, like delicious wild honey. And I can’t seem to get enough, as my tongue finds the delicate skin just above her breasts, making a trail back to her lips.
She pulls away from the kiss, my teeth lightly biting on her bottom lip. She sways back and forth with the rhythm and the rocking of our bodies moving in perfect harmony. She comes toward me again, our lips meeting in some desperate plea. Her hair falls wildly around us, only making her seem unreal. I moan into her mouth, knowing she can feel the vibration of my need against her tongue, while my fingers get lost in the thickness of her hair. I can spend my forever kissin’ on her this way, buryin’ myself, losing myself in her this way.

story, and in doing so, answers the riddle of his heart:
If life is the journey of years, perhaps love is the journey of a lifetime?

The concierge had arranged for us two cruising bikes so that we could explore the area and voyage to the famous restaurant that we had heard so much about. Eva hops on the purple one, sticking me with the pink one that has a wicker basket attached to the front.
“That’s for the fly comment.” She snickers.
“Real men work pink,” I say. “Or so Brad says. He told me my coloring is perfect for pink.” We cruise into the misty day, the sun barely shining through the many Monterey cypress trees that line the hilly area. Eva steadies her bike and releases the handle- bars. She spreads her arms wide like a bird spreading its wings. As we peddle, I hear music in the distance floating from one of the houses on the opposite side of the street. I listen harder, trying to place the beat.
“Do you hear that?” I bounce a bit from the turbulence of
the tires.
Eva grabs the handlebars. “I would never leave you alone…something, something, something.”
“Hell yeah!” I beat the handlebars with my thumbs to the heavy pace of the drums. “Eva, ‘I’ll be’…” I sing some of the song. “I love The Karate Kid! This place reminds me of the movie.” “That’s about the only movie you do like.” “It’s a classic, like Rocky. And if we weren’t riding these bicycles, I’d show you my karate moves! Hi-ya!” I chop the air. “What are you laughing about? You just don’t know the moves your husband has!”
“Hold on, Gabriel-san! Banzai!” Eva shouts, before we go flying down a steep street.
“I love it here. I feel like I can breathe better! The air seems lighter.”
“Don’t get used to it. “We’re not taking up permanent residency in the big shake.” I take the camera from the basket as the bole straightens out. I slow down a bit, getting a prime shot of her butt bouncing up and down on the seat. “The scenery is quite beautiful, though.” She looks behind for a second. “Race you!” She starts going faster and I have to take the camera and throw it in the basket to peddle harder.

Author Bio:

Born and raised in New Orleans, Annie has a habit of shortening her words and telling long stories. She speaks with a southern flair and cooks with it too. At the tender age of twenty- one, she hitched up her wagons (took her first plane ride) and moved out west to the big shake (California).

Her writing career began one sleepless night when she imagined a gorgeous woman and a man with maniacal hair floating above
her like lightening bugs falling from the sky. Curious about them, their story, and why they were floating around in her head, she sat down and penned (typed) her first novel, Marigny Street. A dream come true for her, she hasn’t stopped writing since. She loves a damn good love story, always has, no matter what the genre. She is particularly moved by imperfect love that in its own unique way
is perfect, the notion of love at first sight, soul mates, and things that are generally out of the norm.

When she’s not writing she enjoys dabbling in photography and finding new, inspirational music to add to her collection. Deciding on a whim to hitch up those same wagons, Annie currently resides in Texas (where everything is bigger) with her husband, daughter, and their two peculiar dogs, Boudreaux and Tabasco (who, call her crazy, bark with an accent).

Once we’re checked in, I follow Kye to the elevator and down the hall to our room, dragging my suitcase behind me. He opens the door and waves me ahead of him. Dropping my bags on the floor, I stumble to the bed and fall backward onto it to stare at the ceiling. Kye’s face appears above mine. “You okay?”
I nod. “Exhausted. But I’ll live.”His smile eases some of the tension between us. “I hope so. If you didn’t, I couldn’t.” He sits next to me and runs his fingers down my jaw, across my cheek. “I thought it would be good to have some time alone. We should talk before we get to Kiersten’s.”
We’ve been alone since we left. My stomach twists with anxiety, and I can’t prevent the catch in my voice. “More
His fingers keep moving, tracing my collar bone and shoulder. “No. But I think we need to at least try to make a plan, figure out where we’re going—what comes next. Sleeping arrangements.” He glances meaningfully at the pillows. “Didn’t occur to me until now that maybe I should ask for a double. We’ve been sharing for long enough that I just assumed.”
I close my eyes, too exhausted, too confused to seriously think about anything right now. And the truth is that more than anything else, I need to be held. Our lives have been turned upside down and inside out. We’ve left behind everything and everyone we’ve ever loved except each other—and we have no idea when we’ll see any of them again—if ever. He’s all I have, and I’m all he has.
Regardless of past hurts and mistakes and issues, we’re going to have to learn how to let go and depend on each other, regardless of whether we want to be together the way I once thought we would.
We’re going to have to figure out how to trust each other again. My lack of response has him sighing as he stands. “I’m going to take a shower. Do you need to get in the bathroom first?”
“No, go ahead.” I don’t move except to turn my head and watch him go. Everything about him screams misery—frustration. I know the cure for his frustration could probably come from me. But I don’t know how to give it to him. Not in my current state of mind. When he comes out twenty minutes later with wet hair, wearing his flannel pajama bottoms and a T-shirt, I’m still lying in the same spot. He pauses next to me, a bemused expression lighting his eyes. “It’s all yours. If you want it.”
Sighing wearily, I stand, expecting him to move, but he doesn’t, and his position leaves us close. “Abby,” he murmurs. “Talk to me. Tell me what you’re thinking. Please.” I shake my head, not because I don’t want to talk to him—I know, know, I need to. But I’m exhausted, and overwhelmed, and my brain is so full, I don’t even know where to start. His palm cups my cheek, and I lean into it, eyes closed. His relief is nearly palpable as we stand there, close enough to touch, and yet miles apart, because the contact of his skin on mine—even palm to cheek—still makes me quiver, heats my blood. And Kye feels it.
Eventually, I cover his hand with mine and hold onto it as I step around him, keeping our fingers connected until I step into the already steamy bathroom and close the door.
