He’s a vampire bad boy. She’s a slayer’s daughter who’s never been kissed.

Kyle Logan has been a 16-year-old bad boy for three years, ever since he became a vampire. After a stint at the rehab center run by the Brothers of Temperance, Kyle has finally kicked his blood addiction. Now, he’s back in high school with one goal in mind: stay clean so he can grow up and become an animal-rights activist.

Cassandra Xander wants two things in 10th grade: a car and the chance to attend a traditional high school. She loved being homeschooled growing up, especially since her family moved every six months for Helsing Incorporated, but now that her mother is founding a slayer training academy in La Jolla, California, Cassandra is excited by the opportunity to attend La Jolla Cove High.

When Kyle witnesses Cassandra give a verbal reckoning to a dog owner who leaves her beagle locked in a sweltering car, Kyle makes his move. He loves that Cassandra is smart, intense, and willing to break rules. But Cassandra has zero experience dating and isn’t sure a relationship with a hot-tempered vampire is a good place to start – especially when she discovers Kyle’s secret ability.

Kyle works hard to master his emotions and make all of Cassandra’s high school dreams come true. Just when their romance brightens both of their lives, Kyle’s past draws him back into darkness. The only way forward for these high school sweethearts is to slay or pay.

Louise Cypress believes in friendship, true love, and the everlasting power of books. She has never met a vampire or a mermaid, but she has been to a Love Sucks concert on Valentine’s Day. She can often be found curled up with a romance novel on Saturday night, diet soda in hand, secretly wishing bustles were back in fashion. Louise is from San Diego, California, where the beach is crowded and summer is immortal.

I put my palms on his desk. “You’ll never get away with it. The Environmental Protection Agency wouldn’t let you.” Lex leaned back in his chair and kicked his feet up on the desk. “I’m not worried about that part. Rebecca,” he called to my mother. “Are you ready?” Mom came in through a side door wearing a nightgown with feathers sewn around the neckline like a boa. Her high-heeled slippers had plumes too. Mom draped her arms around Lex’s neck. How many ostriches had had to die so Mom could look like a floozy? “You sure you want to do this to him, hun?” Lex asked her. Mom looked at me with hate-filled eyes. “You bet I am.” “Mom.” I took a step backward. “What’s going on? Do what to me?”

In this comical three-book series, Cypress explores the depth of friendship, intimacy…and the undead. One boy forced to live in a world full of corrupt politics and…vampires? What is worse than that? You are surrounded by money and power, but what happens when you feel powerless to do the right thing because you are just a teenager? Cypress has some of the classic lore intertwined with some original scenes in the mix, making the third installment in this series one that will be hard for readers to put down.

Kyle Thomas is just another boy with a mother who doesn’t care about it. She is this high class political woman who made it big after the death of her husband. Not only does she not care about Kyle, but she even has her boyfriend turn him into a vampire…she doesn’t even have the gall to kill her own son, but she’ll find someone to do it to keep him under control. Assuming that once he is turned, he won’t be a problem anymore, Kyle takes off and joins the Puritan Coven where he meets Cassandra Xander—the beautiful, fearless, teenaged girl—who happens to be a vampire slayer’s daughter. With little hope to make it into her good graces, he fears that he will be the only one to stop his mother and her boyfriend from taking over the Everglades…and then the rest of the world, leaving destruction in their wake. Can Kyle manage to keep his wits about him and maintain his sobriety enough to fulfil his dreams of an eco-friendly world where there are no monsters like his mother and her boyfriend who are raising a vampire army as fast as they can? After all, who wouldn’t want immortality in exchange for looking the other way?

Cypress has a terrific story-line, filled with creativity, originality and fascinating characters. The pace is very quick, but easy to follow and enjoyable. The story appears to be written fairly well and both narrators, Cendese and Buhr, are able to captivate their audience with their vocal differentiation and tone. This installment does not spare the drama that goes on in a teenager’s life, but it is meant to be satirical and geared toward a young adult audience. With that being mentioned, there are some scenes that appear childish but the intention is that it is from a teenager’s point of view. If you are a reader of young adult and paranormal romance, this may be a good fit. This is the third installment in the Puritan Coven Series; therefore, it is recommended for the reader to start from the beginning. While the first and second books focus on different characters, it is still a direct continuance from the previous story-line.
