“Debra “”DJ”” Erfert, a winner of a 2017 Kindle Scout campaign, has authored five published novels, three novellas, and one Kindle World’s novella, and several short stories. She writes what her alter-ego dictates. Maybe it’s her super-ego. In her Window of Time series, Lucy is fearless and strong and has a secret power—all qualities Debra envies. In real life, spiders terrify her, which is why they appear on a regular basis in her books. “Confront your fears, and have your characters squish them!”

Debra uses the pen name DJ Erfert for her paranormal suspense/thriller books, and Debra Erfert for her romantic suspense/mystery books. She is an award-winning fine artist who lives in a southwest desert city in Arizona with her husband, Mike, a retired police lieutenant, where the average summer temperatures are well above 100 degrees—truly hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk. After raising two Eagle Scouts, she now spends her time writing and shooing her polydactyl cats away from her keyboard.”

“Daddy, Daddy,” Beth cried happily as she bounced on his stomach,
“come downstairs and see what Mama did.”
Jack caught his daughter before she could jump on anything vital,
and sat up in bed. Glancing at the clock on his nightstand he saw it wasn’t six
in the morning yet and it was still dark outside. “What are you talking about,
Kathy crawled up next to her sister. “Daddy, come look! Santa
brought our presents from Jesus!” She pulled his arm, grunting softly.
“And Mama came with him. Come look!” Beth said as she wrapped her
hands around his arm beside her little sister’s and tugged. “Daddy!”
“Okay, all right.” Jack pushed back his covers. His slippers were
by his bed, and as he shoved his feet into them he thought of the time when
he’d seen Abby wearing them. She’d been wearing his bathrobe, too. She’d
returned them both to his room before going outside with him. The bedclothes
he’d seen Abby wearing last night were beautiful and definitely fit her better
than his clothes did, but he almost wished she still wanted to keep his. She
had her own boots now, and her own coat that fit, and even her own gloves. In a
way, Jack felt like she didn’t need him any longer.
Out in the hallway he met up with Grace and Harry leaving their
room. They were pulling on their robes as his girls ran by them. Stickers loped
down the stairs after them. Jack smiled. “I guess it’s Christmas morning.”
“Merry Christmas,” Grace said as she tied her bathrobe. “I know
one of his elves was busy very late last night.”
Jack held up two fingers and nodded.
Harry said quietly, “Four hours of sleep isn’t that bad.”
Grinning, he added, “I’ve had less some Christmas Eves.”
“Huh,” Jack said. “A father’s rite of passage.” He slapped his
father-in-law’s shoulder. “Merry Christmas, Harry,” he said before following
his little girls down the stairs.
The girls must have turned on all the lights in the family room
when they first explored their booty. The hallway glowed from the stairs, only
the color was strange. There were subtle hues of red and green mixed with the
yellow-whites reflecting on the walls. When Jack stepped off the bottom step,
he quickly discovered the reason for all the odd illumination.
“Oh, my goodness,” Grace cried softly, with her hand over her
heart. “How?” She dropped her voice low and asked, “Jack, is this what you were
doing last night?”
Jack walked out into the middle of the room and looked around at
all of the decorations that hadn’t been there when he went to bed at two a.m.
“It wasn’t me.”
The few ornaments he’d hung on the tree had been squeezed out by
additional strands of multi-colored twinkling lights, glass angels,
papier-mâché Santa Clauses of various shapes and sizes, green, red, gold, and
silver bulbs. Small acrylic snowmen blended in between winding red ribbon,
flowing tinsel, and crowned with an antique star glowing majestically on top.
Every picture frame on every wall had green garlands with miniature bulbs
hanging from them. Jack slowly realized that he recognized everything. He just
hadn’t seen the decorations for two years.
He swung around to find Grace with her hands on her throat while
looking over their dining table at the end of the living room. He rushed over
to find her staring at a table full of pastel paintings. There were eight
drawings, and in the middle of the table stood a request from Abby. It simply
stated: Merry Christmas, please handle
with care.
“What are you looking at, Gram?” Beth asked as she leaned up on
the table.
Grace picked her up.
Jack swooped Kathy up before she could touch anything, and held
her in his arms.
“Look, Daddy! Mama is an angel.”
The largest of the colorful drawings was of Grace staring out the
kitchen window, with Beth and Kathy next to her, but instead of just their own
reflections greeting them in return, Abby had painted Katie’s portrait gazing
in at her mother and two little daughters. The adoring smile on her face was
exactly what Jack remembered when his wife would gaze lovingly at their babies.
Kathy was correct. Her mother was an angel.
“That’s you, Daddy, and your horse!” Beth reached for a painting,
but Grace caught her arm before she could touch the surface.
“Brander,” Jack said quietly. Smiling, he remembered Abby staring
at him while he worked in the barn. Now he understood why she’d studied him so
hard: to draw him. The portrait next to it was the one he caught her doing when
he’d taken a nap with his girls. He’d opened his eyes just in time to see her
closing her drawing pad. She must have stayed the whole time while they slept.
“Where’s Abby?” Beth asked.
“Probably still sleeping,” Grace said.
“And she’s missing everything,” Jack said. Passing Kathy to her
grandfather, he marched down the back hallway, past the kitchen entryway and
opened Abby’s bedroom door—without knocking. He hit the light switch and then
stopped before going inside the messy room. He needed to step carefully around
the bags on the floor to get to the side of the bed where the lump under the
cover lay.
“Abigail.” Jack squatted next to her, quietly calling her name.
“Abigail, wake up.” He grasped the edge of the blanket over her head and pulled
it down, exposing her pajama covered shoulders and back. Her brown hair spilled
over her face, obscuring her eyes. “Abby, you’re missing Christmas.”
Groaning, Abby turned her head and faced away from him.
With his lips next to her cheek, Jack said, “Abigail Carson, you
need to wake up and watch the girls open presents.”
Mumbling, she said, “No . . .  family only.”
“Come on, Abby.”
“Too tired.”
He pushed aside enough of her messy hair to find some skin, and
kissed her cheek several times before foraging down to her neck. “You leave me
no choice, baby.” Jack un-tucked the blanket from the bottom of the bed, pushed
the blankets underneath Abby’s body, and then lifted her off the bed.
“No, don’t,” she moaned.
“Too late, I’m already doing it.” Jack lifted her higher in his
arms, trailing blankets as he walked. “You worked too hard to miss out on this
“Jack, no!” Abby said, pulling the quilt up over her head.
He stopped before leaving the room, and with his face next to the
blanket where he figured her ear might be, he asked with a soft voice, “Don’t
you want to be with us? Be with me?”
Lowering the blanket, she gazed at his scruffy face and bed-messy
hair, then into his soft green eyes before sliding her arms around his neck.
With her lips touching his ear, she whispered, “Yes, I want to be with you.”
Jack held her tighter. His ability to move out of her room was
preempted by a sudden surge of emotion. He let her legs slip out of his grip.
He had better use of his arm—he wrapped it around her back.
“We better go,” Abby said, “or you’ll miss your daughters opening
their presents, and I don’t want to be responsible for that.” Grinning, she
added, “And I have another gift for you.”
With his face in her hair, he said, “I’ve seen them. They’re
beyond beautiful, Abby. I don’t know how to thank you.”
Leaning back, Abby squinted. “I don’t think we’re talking about
the same thing.”
“We saw your paintings on the dining table.”
“Oh—” Abby smoothed her hand along his fuzzy jaw. “I wasn’t
talking about those, but I’m very glad you like them.”
Leaning down closer to her lips, he said, “I . . .  love them,” then he kissed her.

USA Today Best Seller, Nana Malone’s love of all things romance and adventure started with a tattered romantic suspense she “borrowed” from her cousin.

It was a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana, and Nana was a precocious thirteen. She’s been in love with kick butt heroines ever since. With her overactive imagination, and channeling her inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before she started creating her own characters.

While she waits for her chance at a job as a ninja assassin, in the meantime Nana works out her drama, passion and sass with fictional characters every bit as sassy and kick butt as she thinks she is.

 Book links here:

Some people don’t get to experience it in their lifetime. Some are just scared to. I can say that I’m blessed to have experienced it with Morgan. I knew the moment I’d laid my brown eyes on him that he would be my soulmate. After everything we have been through, it just made my love for him even stronger.

Now that the two of us are living the family life, it feels good but a tiny part of me sort of misses the thrill-seeking couple that we used to be. Not the running after guns and getting shot part; just the spontaneous action we used to have when we first started dating.

Once Morgan and I ate dinner, I let him get some rest. I knew he was tired from work. He’s been at the station nonstop for the past two weeks on a case he couldn’t discuss. Majority of his cases he couldn’t talk about, but he’ll give hints to some of them and I’ll figure out what they are. This one, he has had a tight lip on, which I wasn’t mad about but it did make me feel some type of way. We tell each other everything, so this was sort of bittersweet that this part of our lives we couldn’t share.

Within minutes, Morgan was back asleep and with MJ with my parents, I decided to get some work done. I did have a project due soon, so this was a good time to get some of it done.

I glanced at my computer screen wondering where to begin when my phone rang. My future sister-in-law, Tamara, was calling. Although she doesn’t know it yet, I know my brother will propose to her soon.

He better.

“Hey Tam, what’s up?”

“Hey Hales, I was just calling.”

“Uh-no, what has my big-headed brother done now?”

Tamara laughed. “Lamar hasn’t done anything, Hales. He’s still the perfect gentleman.”

“He better be.”

“I was seeing what you were up to. My mind is all over the place because of work and I just needed someone to talk to.”

“Say no more, Tam. Want to go to our usual spot?”

“Yes! Thank you.”

“No prob. I’ll see you in a few.”

After we disconnected, I shut down my computer and walked into my bedroom. I heard Morgan softly snoring as I went up to him. I gave him a quick peck on the lips and he slowly opened his eyes.

“Hey, just letting you know, I’m going out with Tam for a bit.”

“I thought you had work to do?”

“It can wait. My mind wasn’t on it anyway.”

“Okay, don’t stay out too long. I’ll be wide awake when you return.”

“Definitely. We should take advantage of the alone time we have now.”

I smiled as Morgan leaned over to kiss me.

“Maybe I should call Tam and cancel.”

“Go, baby. I’m not going anywhere.”

I kissed him again and went to put on my shoes. After all of these years, Morgan still looks good. His blue eyes were still clear and beautiful like a deep blue ocean. His blond hair was still short and cropped, but his athletic body has changed a bit. Since he joined the force, he has bulked up a bit. I didn’t think he could get any sexier, but he definitely has.

“You’re thinking about doing me this second, aren’t you?”

I laughed. “You still cocky as ever.”

“You’re not denying it, though.”

I gave him a sexy smile. “I guess you’ll know soon enough, hubby.”

I leaned down and kissed him again before grabbing my wristlet and keys. Hopefully, my visit with Tamara doesn’t take too long because Morgan and I have some much-needed alone time to share.

Book links here:

Paul slid his hands around the small of her back. He gave it a little push bringing her closer to him. He deepened the kiss. Hearing Adnan in the kitchen had set his heart racing. He’d imagined for a split second that Alice would want the man standing in her kitchen, his skin bearing no scars. But hearing her say she didn’t want Adnan then looking into his eyes and repeating those words was more than he, Paul, could have ever asked for. He lifted his head as he cupped one side of her face. “so beautiful, you are so very, very beautiful.”

“So are you,” she replied as she reached forward. Paul pulled back he smiled at her sound of frustration. “Calm, just be calm.”

“Calm?” Alice queried.

“Yes, calm,” he replied as he pulled her fully against him. He bent his head kissing her neck. “Don’t think for one moment I won’t fulfill our desires tonight.”

“I didn’t say that” she said as her head lulled back. She ran her hand lightly over the back of his head, loving how he was making her feel. “Paul,” came her small sigh. Paul lifted his head, stepped back and turned her so she was facing the wall.

“Paul.” She placed her hands on the wall anchoring herself.

“Shh.” He stepped back up to her. He grasped the material of her skirt, bunching it in his hands. “You look so damn good tonight,” he whispered as his hand grazed her thigh

“Yes, I love this dress. You will have to wear it again for me.” He kissed her ear. “And only me,” he whispered.

       “Yes,” Alice cooed.

“Good.” His hand traveled slowly over the front of her thighs, until he reached her panties. He skimmed the material covering her mound.

“Silk?” he questioned as he unbuttoned his pants, thankful he’d opted for loose fitting khakis.

       “Lace, crotchless lace.”

“And who gave you crotchless panties?” He questioned. If it was another man he would rip them off and burn them never wanting another’s intimate gift on his woman’s body. If was a friend of hers he would have to thank them for giving him immediate access to pleasure his woman

“Clarita. She gave them to me as a gift for tonight.” Alice replied breathless. Thank heavens. “I’ll have to thank her the next time I see her,” Paul replied as he wrapped his arm around her waist lifting her

       “Paul I’m-”

       “Not,” he said.

       “Bu- oh.”

Paul closed his eyes as he entered her she was so tight, so wonderful and so very much his. He started to move. “You feel so good wrapped around me.”

“I should be saying the same to you.” She breathed as pleasure started to build within her. He filled her so well she was not sure where he ended and she began.

“That’s it baby. I want you to cum for me. I want you to scream my name.”

Paul said as he felt her squeezing him and her body start to quiver. “Cum for me Alice. Scream the name of the man who’s going to make you cum so hard you’ll think about for the rest of your life”

“Paul!!!” Alice screamed as the hardest orgasm she’d ever had hit her.

Paul shuddered into her, only seconds later, pouring his essence into her body. “We are so not done.” He shook his pants free of his body. Then made sure his arm was secured around Alice, before he stepped back and headed towards her room. He walked over to the bed and laid her gently there before following her. He placed some of his weight on the bed while still having her back pressed to his front and his dick in her. He kissed her neck. “For a quickie that was amazing.” Alice chuckled. “You know I made dinner.” She said as she squeezed him

“Hmm….it smells wonderful,” Paul said as he cupped her full breast. He massaged it through her dress. He loved her squeezing him. Alice licked her lips. “That feels so good.” She pressed into the hand squeezing her breast.

“You feel good.” He moved his hips. Hard once again for the woman before him.

       “Paul, oh Paul!” She called

He loved hearing his name on her lips. “ALICE!!” He called as he emptied a second time. Alice shuddered. She could become addicted to this man. She pulled away from him, sat up and removed her dress. She turned smiled at Paul and reached for his shirt. She wanted to see him.

“Alice,” he started as he covered her hands on his shirt. Alice leaned forward. “You know what I thought when I first saw you,” she said as she lifted his shirt.

“What is this charred mess before me?” Paul joked.

“No” She skimmed her hand over his abs, his scars and his chest. “I thought this is the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen a day in my life.” She gestured for him to sit up. Paul did as she requested, nervous as to how she would look at him and his scars. He’d taken her from behind because of his scars, opting not to see the disgust she would try to hide while looking at him.

She pulled his shirt over his head. “Lie down”

       “Alice, I can’t”

“You can,” she said as she pushed him gently onto the bed. She straddled his hips. Alice reached for the front clasp of her bra. She smiled at Paul’s sharp intake of breath when she unclasped it, showing her full breasts.

“Do you like what you see?” she teased.

“Yes,” Paul breathed as he placed his hands on her hips. “I love a woman with curves.”

Alice smiled as she bent and started kissing Paul’s chest. She made sure to spend a little extra time on the flesh he thought was ugly. She lifted her head she looked him in the eyes “I’m not scared, disgusted or turned off by what I see before me.” Paul said as he placed a hand on her cheek, “Alice, I don’t have a leg and my body is-”

“Is mine,” she told him as she sat up. She ran her hands over his chest. “Do you understand me Paul Wolfe? This body and the man it houses all belong to me.” She replied as she placed her lips on his.

I’ve worked hard to escape my past. I’m not that frightened little boy anymore. I’m wealthy, secure, and sure of myself. At least I was, until I met Lily.
Lily is a good girl. The kind of girl I should stay away from. I should, but I can’t.
I hate lying to her, but if she finds out who I am, what I do. I won’t see her for dust.
A standalone, bad boy romance, set in England.

Available balance £2.50. I blink and look again at the ATM screen. Available balance £2.50. This must be a mistake. I pull my card from the machine, and glance at the line of people behind me. They’re just going to have to wait. This is an emergency. Feeling cold, I insert my card and reenter my pin. Available balance £2.50. Has my account been hacked? What will I do if someone has stolen my money?

Snatching my card, I head to a quiet corner of the car park. Pulling out my phone, I call the number on the back of the card. I pace back and forth as I’m forced to listen to five minutes of background music. Finally, a human being comes on the line. After answering her security questions, I try to remain calm as I explain to her that my balance must be wrong, that my wages of £958 are always paid in on the first of the month, that it’s now the third and the money is not showing in my account. More waiting while she checks my recent transactions. The car park is filling up, it’s that time of the evening when people come home from work and stop off to get their groceries. Dark clouds block out the sun. It’s going to rain and I didn’t bring an umbrella. Her voice cuts through my thoughts. “I can see £958 is usually paid in on the first of every month. However, there was no payment this month.”

There’s a gust of wind and I feel a few drops of moisture against my skin. “Are you sure? Maybe there’s been a mistake.”

“Nothing has been paid in. All I can suggest is you contact the personnel department of the company you work for.”

I shove my phone into my bag. Great. Just great. I join the throng of customers who are shuffling through the doors of the store. As I pass by one of the checkouts someone calls out, “Are you back already? You doing an extra shift?” It’s one of my colleagues but I really don’t have the energy to explain, so I mouth, ‘Got a problem.’

Standing outside my boss’s office, I rap my knuckles against the door. At twenty-three, my boss is only three years older than me. He looks up at me as I stand in front of his desk. “Can I help you, Lily?”

He’s a good guy. Like me, he has a degree, and like me he’s putting it to good use by working at a grocery store. Too many graduates applying for too few jobs. At least my day ends at five. Eight hours on the checkout and I’m done. My boss works longer hours and has way more responsibility, for not much more pay. No surprise he’s young, they wouldn’t get an older more experienced person to do this job for the money they pay. I sigh. “My wages haven’t been paid.”

“Not you as well.” He rubs the back of his neck. “There’s been a mix up. Personnel are aware of it and your wages should be in your account by Monday.” My dismay must be obvious, because he frowns. “I can loan you a few quid if you’re short. You can pay me back when you get paid.”

I square my shoulders and shake my head. Owing money makes me anxious. For that reason, I’m one of those rare people who doesn’t own a credit card. I’ll manage. Somehow.

I hear the rain before I even step out into the car park. This day just keeps getting better. Before heading outside I pull my coat up over my head. Water splashes onto my tights as my feet slosh through puddles. Striding briskly, I consider my options. My food cupboards are empty but I have £70 in my purse to pay my electric bill. I could use that cash to buy food and pay the electric on Monday. But, I’ve already received the final notice. I’ll pay the bill. Four days without food won’t kill me. My feet are soaked and rain drips from my eyelashes by the time I reach the Post Office. I delve into my bag for my purse.

Tel Aviv, Israel
September 12th
5 a.m.
New York time 10 p.m. September 11th
Cyrus’ cell phone rang, waking him from a dream of making love to his wife. He glanced at the clock—five a.m. Not good.
His throat was glued shut. He squeezed out, “Yes?”
“Cyrus, I’m sorry to call with such devastating news.”
It was Rafi, the director of Mossad’s Americas’ desk. A chill crept up Cyrus’ spine.
“I just got a call from New York. There’s been an attack.” Rafi’s voice came tense and strained…the act of speech seemed to produce immeasurable pain.
Cyrus’ heart pounded as if a regiment of infantry stampeded on his chest. His voice barely above a whisper. “What happened?”
“A bomb exploded in a restaurant…near the Museum of Modern Art. Probably a hundred or more people have been killed. Avi Zaken was there. We assume he’s dead.”
“Oh, my God, they got the consul general. Layla’s going to be devastated. She’s very fond of Avi.”
“About Layla.” Rafi’s voice softened. “Her name is on his calendar. His dinner appointment. I’m so sorry, Cyrus.”
Cyrus’ blood froze, and his heart refused to beat. It took every ounce of his strength to hold it together. He held the phone in a death grip. “How do we know she was in the restaurant? Have you checked with her security detail? Maybe there’s been a mistake.”
“Layla released them earlier in the day—”
“Why would she?” He closed his eyes. “Shit. Shit. Shit, that sounds like Layla.”
He fought to steady his voice. “Anything else?”
“The FBI’s tracking down museum security to see who saw her leave. I can’t tell you for certain if she was in the restaurant, but in all likelihood, she was there. God…” Rafi’s voice cracked. “This is such a fucking disaster. I hate to be the bearer of such news.”
“This can’t be right?”
“Cyrus, it’s all over the news. The FBI’s calling it terrorism. We’ve already requested inclusion in the case. The prime minister’s up in arms. He’s adamant this attack will not go unanswered. He’s called for an emergency meeting at the Office, but given the circumstances…if you feel you can’t—”
Cyrus interrupted him. He struggled to control the scream climbing up his throat. I need to keep it together. “No, I’ll be there as soon as I can. What about Aleck, Layla’s father, has anyone notified him? I can’t—I mean—I don’t think I could handle talking to him right now.”
“Dodi’s calling him.”
The prime minister. Good. “I’m on my way.” He hung up and stared at his cell phone, feeling the walls close in around him.
Layla. Dead. Layla. Dead. Layla. Dead. The words burned into his brain like a firestorm leaving nothing but ashes.
Impossible. No warning. No premonition. Nothing but emptiness. Shouldn’t I have felt something?
“Noooo!” He roared with grief. He howled, keening like a wild beast. Everything of beauty in the world dead or dying.
Layla. Dead. And it was his fault. He should have kept her from going. I’m the target. It’s me they want. Oh, dear God, what have I done? Why didn’t you take me?
There was no way he could live without her. He wanted to kill someone—something—anything that might stop the pain. He thought about the Jericho pistol in his drawer. He wanted to hold the shiny, black, instrument of death to the head of her killers. He wanted to pull the trigger. He wanted to see blood gush, brains splatter—he wanted revenge.
