The Path Of Destiny
The Cremelino Prophecy Book 1
by Mike Shelton
Genre: YA Fantasy
ABOUT THE BOOK: In this new Young Adult/Teen fantasy series, Darius San Williams, son of one of King Edward’s councilors, cares little for his father’s politics and vows to leave the city of Anikari to protect and bring glory to the Realm. But when a new-found and ancient power emerges from within him, he and his friends Christine and Kelln are faced with decisions that could shatter or fulfill the prophecy and the lives of all those they know. Wizards and magic have long been looked down upon in the Realm, but Darius learns that no matter where he goes, prophecy and destiny are waiting to find him.
“Age does not matter in bravery or command. All it takes is a certain type of man. I can tell that the King picked the right man in you.” She smiled at him and he once again became all flustered. “You will be the first commander. You will always be the first, no matter when others gain a command. You will run the King’s Elite Army, Darius. You will go down in history for this. A new breed of warrior.” Darius thought for a moment about what she was saying. He surmised that she was trying to flatter him for her own reasons. Yet she was right. He had gained the first command. Anger built for a moment as he tried to figure out if he was indeed in charge or if the political machine of the Realm had manipulated him again. He felt his power well up inside him. It always happened in response to his anger. He thought about how much he still disliked the King and his father for sending him here without any notice or choice in the matter.
REVIEW: Turning Another Page’s 5 Star Review: If you had power inside of you, power that was frowned on by everyone in the world, how would you handle that aspect of life? Any power that you had would play on your emotions and grow stronger with time, allowing you to protect yourself from injustices…sometimes outside of your control. Shelton has an incredible YA fantasy, one that will leave readers craving more of this new and intriguing world supposedly devoid of magic.
Darius is now a young man, as is his friend Kelln. Both men get trapped in an underground basement of sorts…somewhere that they are not supposed to be, but they find themselves locked into the darkness. The fear of being trapped inside causes Darius’ powers to rise to the surface, allowing him to bring forth a ball of fire into his hand at first…then further throughout the room to candles and lanterns against the wall. All while his friend is in awe! Darius knows that the realm had banished wizards a long time ago, but what would happen if they found out that a noble’s son, could bring power back? As the two friends find an escape out of the room, Darius also finds a sword that calls out to him. It responds to his touch and so he takes it along with him…not understanding that his journey has just begun—one which may lead both of them into different directions. Darius’ power plays on his emotions, making it difficult to control at times of anger…like when he is angry at his father for chastising him about his love of a farmer girl named Christine. He gives his heart to someone that his father deems unworthy, even though Darius sees her as an equal…before going out on a training mission under the King’s secretive orders, he gives her the most important gift of all…a Cremelino horse. These creatures are pure and only take one owner in their entire life. They also know…the prophecy of the realm is coming close and it involves Darius, Kelln and Christine to find themselves before unfolding.
Shelton has superb character development in this first installment of the Cremelino Prophecy. He knows his characters, their strengths and their flaws well. The originality in this story is fantastic as well as the world building! The words are easy to read, making the story fast-paced and entertaining. There are so many factors that have come to light within this story, leaving the reader with curiosity of what is to come in the second and third novel within this trilogy. If you are a reader of YA fantasy, this may be perfect for your tastes.

I was born in California and have lived in multiple states from the west coast to the east coast. I really cannot remember a time when I wasn’t reading a book. At school, home, on vacation, at work at lunch time, and yes even a few pages in the car (at times when I just couldn’t put that great book down). Though I have read all sorts of genres I have always been drawn to fantasy. It is my way of escaping to a simpler time filled with magic, wonders and heroics of young men and women.
Other than reading, I has always enjoyed the outdoors. From the beaches in Southern California to the warm waters of North Carolina; from the waterfalls in the Northwest to the Rocky Mountains in Utah; I have appreciated the beauty that God provides for us. I also enjoy hiking, discovering nature, playing a little basketball or volleyball, and most recently disc golf. I have a beautiful wife who has always supported me and three beautiful children who have been the center of my life.
I began writing stories in elementary school and moved on to larger novels in my early adult years. I have worked in corporate finance most of my career. That, along with spending time with my wonderful family and obligations at church have made it difficult to find the time to truly dedicate to writing. In the last few years as my children have become older I have returned to doing what I truly enjoy – writing!
