Edge of Danger (Corpus Agency, Book 1)

ABOUT THE BOOK: Along the edge of danger, the next step might be the last …

A woman without a past

Left amnesiac after an accident, Amelia Jamison’s instincts slowly rise from the depths of oblivion to question her life as the wife of a cold, manipulating, and distant man. Wisps of a dream show her another man she may have known intimately, but is he a memory, or a figment of her imagination?

A man with too much information

After many undercover aliases, today Gerard Besson is simply a police commissaire in Marseille. When a mysterious woman starts to follow him, he is suspicious. But things aren’t what they seem, and as he reluctantly gets closer to her, dredges of his painful, buried past spring to light and make him question her identity.

Each seems to have led two different lives …

But neither is prepared for what awaits them when they cross the fine line between knowing your true self and that of your alter ego.

Danger is the name of the game, and as it catches up with them in the French Provence, both know they better be ready for the inevitable fall, especially as both their hearts get tangled on the line …

The realization made his chest constrict with pain. “Fey went missing right after,” Scott continued, “and Stepanovic also vanished into thin air.” He sighed. “Now, I know she was snatched. I had trouble believing she’d gone rogue on us, too.” He frowned. “Why?” “Something didn’t fit right. You know what the MICE acronym stands for, Commissaire?” He nodded. “Money, ideology, corruption, and ego. The main levers for inciting an officer or an agent to switch sides or defect.” “Exactly. Fey didn’t fit any of those.” They why had she been leaving? “It wasn’t just about her, was it?”

REVIEW: Waking up somewhere that is foreign to you must be very scary, but also not knowing anything about who you are, who you were…that would drive anyone absolutely crazy. But, how would you feel if there was someone there with you…telling you things that do not feel right? Things like you are married, but you get a bad vibe from your spouse…or, you are actually a bad person…but then he hits you and uses drugs on you? Who would allow this abuse without trying to get out as soon as possible, knowing that what they feel is all wrong? Amelia Jameson asks herself that same question every day, since the near fatal bombing attack seven months ago where she was the sole survivor. Monodee has an intriguing novel, one packed with action, mystery, and romance—one where readers will be left to attempt their own conclusions about who Amelia Jameson really is and why she seems to be a target.

Peter Jameson plays along and tells Amelia that she is his wife. She survived a bombing seven months ago and will be living in luxury after the reconstruction of nearly her entire body. No one recognizes her…how can they? With the ongoing spread of desperation in her limbs, Amelia knows that this life is a fabrication…it just cannot be real. The life that she lives now does not make sense. After the drugs and his physical abuse, she understands that she has to get out…but where will she go and who will know her—other than the mysterious man following her around? With her amnesia, she is forced to bank all of her faith on instinct and dreams that could very well be a fabrication as well. Going all the way to Marseille, she becomes immersed in finding out more about her former life—starting with the man in her dreams, a lover named Gerard Besson. Will he have the answers that she seeks or is will it lead to more questions?

Monodee has an interesting story with complicating characters. It is filled with creativity and originality, but it lacks a steady pace. Some areas of this novel drag very slowly where other scenes are very quick, which makes the read a bit confusing or difficult to follow. Even though it is written very well, there seems to be something missing. Monodee provides a certain vibe and writing style that may not appeal to everyone. It is classified in the mystery genre, but readers are left in the dark for most of the story with the author not really leaving enough clues to space out the novel. This is the first installment within the Corpus Agency; therefore, readers can dive right in. If you are a reader of espionage thrillers with a little romance, you may want to pick this up.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: From always choosing the storytelling option in English & French classes to sneaking a Mills&Boon romance under the desk at school, Zee went on to make a career out of writing the kind of emotional romances all young girls junk on.

Her Mauritius and Indian-based romances have all the classic makings of Bollywood-type drama: overbearing mothers, matchmaking aunties, ‘proper’ eligible suitors who look like frogs, race & class divides.

Travel to the UK (Surrey & North Yorkshire), and you meet people—young and older—struggling to find ‘The One’ amid the drudgery of day-to-day life, never mind if they’re a simple graphic designer working from home, a world-renowned supermodel battling anorexia, or a reluctant heiress on the run.

Take to the Corpus Agency mantle, and become lethal spies & assassins who nevertheless feel the call of love in their dark and shady lives…

A Muslim of Indian origin as well as a 2x breast cancer survivor, Zee lives in paradise (aka Mauritius!) with her long-suffering husband, her smart-mouth teenage son, and their tabby cat who thinks herself a fearsome feline from the nearby African Serengeti plains. When she isn’t in her kitchen rolling out chapattis or baking cakes while singing along to the soundtrack of Glee, she can be found reading or catching up on her numerous TV show addictions. In her day job, she is an editor who helps other authors like her hone their works and craft.
