Review: Kissing Madeline by Lex Martin

ABOUT THE BOOK: What’s the worst thing about wanting a sexy NFL football player? Everyone else wants him, too.

After catching my boyfriend getting deep-throated by a skanky cage girl, I’ve learned my lesson – never date a professional athlete. Never. Besides, I have more important things to worry about, like not blowing my shot to make it as a broadcast reporter. I won’t let anything get in my way, not even the new “it boy” of the NFL and my hot-as-hell neighbor.

What’s the worst thing about getting death glares from his new neighbor? It doesn’t make him want her any less.

I’ve worked my ass off to make it to the pros. The last thing I need is the complication of a relationship, especially since my last one was a total train wreck. But I can’t stop thinking about the feisty girl next door with the smart mouth. And I’d love nothing more than to show her what to do with that mouth.

Friends with benefits might be the best idea he’s ever had. Or the worst.

REVIEW: This story is fantastic! It begins with a rough and emotional onslaught. Maddie comes home early one day and finds her boyfriend with another woman in their bed. She video tapes the whole ordeal to remind her how much of a jerk he is, just in case she starts to forget or think that this was all her fault. That is when she decides to move in with a friend. While there, she learns that an old crush lives next door. Mr. Daren Sloan, the Rebel’s quarterback and most eligible bachelor in Boston is her next door neighbor. The heat starts to fire up when he invites her to one of his parties but can they work through issues from their past or will it end in ultimate shambles?

I really enjoyed reading Maddie’s perspective of life. Since she is a reporter, she has to be professional about almost everything. When Daren waltzes into her life, she can’t help but be anything but professional if she wants to keep control of her body and career. The author really captures the emotions of falling really well. The out of control, stressful, nervous butterflies in the stomach feeling that rises is priceless and all-consuming. The story was engaging and I really could not put it down.

Kissing Madeline is the third in the series; it can be read as a standalone but I wouldn’t recommend it. This should be read in order so that the reader can understand the characters. I recommend this story to anyone who enjoys romance and erotica. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, mainly due to the plot. This author always draws me in with her story lines because they are so creative and full of intense emotion. I rate this with five stars.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Lex is the USA Today bestselling author of Shameless and The Dearest Series. She writes contemporary romances, the sexy kind with lotsa angst, a whole lotta kissing, and the hot happily ever afters. When she’s not writing, she lives a parallel life as an English teacher. She loves printing black and white photos, listening to music on vinyl, and getting lost in a great book. Bitten by wanderlust, she’s lived all over the country but currently resides in the City of Angels with her husband and twin daughters.

Review: Snow White Lies by Sarah J Pepper

ABOUT THE BOOK: “Evil poisons everyone. Period. Our mouths water when we sink our teeth into what we have always craved. Surrendering to our desires by biting off a delectable piece of the forbidden fruit is nothing more than a meager confession: Poison tastes sinfully sweet. #SnowWhiteLies”—Confessions of the Big Apple Debutante, by blogger Miss Snow White.

BOOK LINKS:  Amazon | Goodreads | Kobo | Barnes & Noble | Apple

REVIEW: Snow White Lies is twisted. It is dark and immensely rewarding. When I first saw what this story was going to be about, I couldn’t wait to read it. Miss (Snow) White, is the heir to a substantially large company called White Industries. Her income doesn’t stop there though! She has other companies that make even more than White Industries does, allowing her to prosper as the most well-known face in the world who has connections with everyone, even the Seven. The Seven are a band of evil, corrupt, and malicious group of dwarves who work for the Queen. They have given their servitude and found an unnamed man who fits the bill of a perfect Harlot’s Assassin AKA the Huntsman, the number one target being Snow White. How many times can she escape the Queen and the Seven? What deeds must be done before she can no longer claim innocent anymore? My favorite character in this twisted novel is the Huntsman. He is driven by the Seven to do their dirty work, mainly assassinations and he is quite good at it. Every kill darkens his soul; however, he can’t escape the past with memories of a red-headed woman. This was his first kill, the one that bound him to the Seven for eternity. Throughout the decades, he has remained as vigilant and precise with his promise to extract his revenge. I also loved several other characters, including Miss Snow White herself since she portrays a great stride of independence. She is smart, devious and careful with her planning, even though the world may see her as a wealthy snob with no regard for anyone else. I can’t forget to mention that she is the world’s biggest smart-ass to boot. When death comes knocking on her door, she is torn between fear and passion. Fear for her life because she hasn’t yet accomplished her dire goal and passion for the one that was sent to bring her limp corpse back to the jealous Queen. In my opinion, Snow White Lies is a fantastic read. I recommend this story to those who enjoy reading mystery and paranormal suspense. I really enjoy how this author took the original Snow White fairy tale and warped it into her own intriguing version. I will look forward to more written by this author and will have to go back and read the other two in the series called Twisted Fairytale Confessions.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: I specialize in dark, paranormal romance – think “happy ever after” but with a twisted, dark chocolate center. Real-life romance isn’t only filled with hugs, kisses, bunnies, and rainbows. True-love can be more thoroughly described in times of darkness and tribulation. It’s in those harsh moments where you see what a person is truly capable of – both the good and bad. Sometimes prince-charming isn’t always on time, and the glass slipper is a little snug. However, it doesn’t mean Charming is not Mr. Right, and who says every shoe is the perfect fit?

Sarah J. Pepper lives in South Dakota with her real-life prince charming. At a young age, she fell for paranormal books and now incorporates that genre with romance that thrives in the hearts of us all. When she’s not storytelling, she’s most likely biking, hoarding chocolate, or taking a bubble bath.

Review: Fatal Obsession by Christina OW

ABOUT THE BOOK: A man obsessed, a mysterious women with amnesia, and a murderer. After a hot weekend with a mysterious woman, Damien Chan did not expect to get a frightened phone call from her, begging him to save–what? who? The call is cut before she says it. The next thing he knows, he’s become obsessed with finding her and saving her from the man that had led to their first meeting. But he never expected to find her in his cousin Dale Carson’s house… as his wife! She finds out her nightmares are actually memories of her past life… the life of a murderer. Could she truly be the deranged Ellsa Jabari who’d almost added her own sister Ellie to the list of people she’s killed? Amnesia can be a real bitch!

SNIPPET: The door swung open and Damien turned to face it. Ellie stared at him curiously, shifting a questioning look at Dale before turning back to Damien with a hesitant ‘hi’. Dale couldn’t see Damien’s face, but he heard him loud and clear from where he sat in the car a few feet away from them. “I finally found you,” his voice so tender it broke Dale’s heart, right before his anger flared when Damien grabbed Ellie and kissed her on the lips. “What the fuck!” Dale yelled, jumping out of the car and running to them.

BOOK LINKS: AmazonGoodreads | Kobo | Barnes & Noble | Smashwords | Apple

REVIEW: This story begins with a glimpse from the past. Damien is on vacation and enjoying every minute of it, until a mysteriously gorgeous woman wearing a Victoria Secret bathing suit nearly knocks down his door. With blood all over her clothes and her body shaking convulsively, Damien offered her a safe place to stay until the danger subsided, that danger’s name is Vladimir. Five years later, Damien still can’t get that woman out of his head and has searched everywhere, high and low for a sign of his Victoria Secret. Out of desperation, he enlists the help of his cousin Dale who knows more about her than he could have ever imagined. Dale has a violent hatred for this woman, completely opposite from Damien’s obsession. Will Dale help him after learning who his cousin is searching for? Will finding her make a difference? My favorite character in this story is Elena Smith. She is fierce, loyal and deep down – loving. Her respect for Ellsa – Tasha, goes way beyond friendship. She becomes her sister, protecting her when no one else can. My least favorite character is Tom. He is abusive, condescending and highly egotistical. The author provided me with an arc of Fatal Obsession in exchange for an honest review. I did not have a chance to read the first in the series, although, I was assured that this story could be read as a standalone. I found that the author was able to hold my attention along with my emotions as I read continuously until the end. I couldn’t seem to put it down! I recommend the read to anyone who enjoys suspense and/or mystery novels. It has a slight hint of technology advancement in the context; however, in my opinion, this is more of a mystery. I rate this story with five stars because it was well written, creative, intriguing, hopeful yet dark and fast-paced. I look forward to reading the next in the series; however, will have to go back to read the first book since I enjoyed this one a lot.

She’s always had an active imagination and because of it has lived in her head more than she has been in the outside world. Review: The Doom of Undal by Katrina Sisowath

25201274ABOUT THE BOOK: The Dragon Court has ruled uncontested for millenia, bringing knowledge and prosperity to all. The Strongholds of Madayi Kavu, Tartaria, Magan and Shiimti have trained generations of royal children. Ningi has built a line of Ziggurats known as ‘the Band of Peace’ around Magan, protecting those within its borders. Yet all is not as it seems—far to the West in the land of Undal, mightiest of the nations, the Royal Queen and her children are struck with a mysterious illness and perish. Whispers are that the Dragon Court is responsible, while those in the Temples claimed she had sequestered herself in her chambers, experimenting with dark magic. A grieving son, trained as a Mulla Xul by Eris herself, swears vengeance. In his quest for truth he will become the greatest threat Tiamut has ever known. Three Princesses of Magan, sisters by blood, hold the fate of the Dragon Court in their hands.

BOOK LINKS: Amazon | Goodreads | Barnes & Noble

REVIEW: The Doom of Undal is quite suspenseful and dark. This is the second of the Dragon Court Series where the Annunaki descendents continue within this new planet, contributed by Lord Enki and Priestess Ninkha. This story begins a little before the ending of the first book with the Annunaki children spreading out to become Magi’s and Priests/Priestesses of several different location. They have now formed an allegiance known as the Dragon Court. As they have lived peacefully for a thousand years, all too quickly does another threat comes to the surface. Three sisters, princesses of Magan’s King and Queen have reached the age of eleven where they must be tested and placed into their rightful training. Once they have fully grown, the sisters settle on their desired paths. The title of this story, The Doom of Undal, signifies that an impending doom comes to Undal but how…and what is the reasoning behind such drastic measures? How are the three princesses involved?

My favorite character in this story is Hathor; this is one of the three sisters from Magan. She has an unusual childhood which includes a near drowning; however, Innana, the Priestess of Shiimti and daughter of Ninka, is summoned for her help. Hathor leaves with her to be trained in the Temple of Love. Hathor’s strength and courage, with what she must endure, is tremendous. I admire this character for finding hope when all seems lost in a world full of false beauty. Cronous is my least favorite character, since the loss of his mother and siblings from a mysterious poison, cause his insanity to heighten. His insatiable lust for death becomes prevalent which causes mistrust, violence and innocent bloodshed. Both characters captivated my attention and drew my further into the progression of the story where promises were tested and loyalties tempted.

I recommend this story to those who enjoy Mythology, Fantasy and/or Science Fiction. Since reading the first of this series, I have learned that several of these names and meanings are from mythology. This author does an outstanding job with creating this world among other worlds. Not only does she create the world, but she also manifests new species and characterizations. I rate this book with five stars due to the raw-talent and attention to detail that is succumbed to the characters and emotions presented in this novel as well as how I was able to relate to them. I look forward to reading the next in the series which sounds like it may be even darker.

Review: Serpent Priestess of the Annunaki by Katrina Sisowath

ABOUT THE BOOK: The Annunaki on Nibiru lack precious metals, stones and minerals, which they desire, food on Nibiru is also running low. Their solution: establish a colony on a distant planet teeming with wildlife and vegetation. When the Annunaki discover they are ill equipped to labor under the harsh conditions found on Earth, they create a workforce called humans, a hybrid manufactured from their DNA and a species known as hominid.

The Serpent Priestess Ninkha and her husband Lord Enki are charged with this task, battling not only the challenges faced adjusting to life on Earth, but Enki’s brother, Enlil, as well. Will the humans live as Enki and Ninkha envisioned–able to learn, create and above all, reason? Or will they subjugate themselves to Enlil and his rule willingly?

At stake is the future of the Priestesses of Damuth, who, along with their serpents, service the Annunaki with their own blood, providing those who partake of the cocktail of blood and venom the ultimate in achieving a higher state of consciousness, along with youth, vigour and longevity. If Enlil, whose disdain of them is well-known, wins, what will happen to them?

To protect themselves and their descendants they form the ‘Dragon Court’, but is it enough? Serpent Priestesses or Witches, Gods or Demons, Aliens or Ancestors, Oppressors or Creators? Perhaps all of the above…………..

BOOK LINKS: Amazon | Goodreads | Barnes & Noble

REVIEW: This story is Book One of the Dragon Court series. Priestess Ninkha and Lord Enki are married in Nibiru and then immediately rushed to a distant planet on a mission of discovery. With both being of royal families and the purest longevity, they are sent to this planet for one sole reason. The Annunaki race will soon whither on Nibiru due to lack of resources and minerals needed to sustain their race; their urgency to find workers that can tolerate the atmosphere and conditions of the new planet must be found. Every Annunaki is bonded with a dragon of the opposite sex when they are born, so Priestess Ninkha and Lord Enki travel to this planet with their bonded dragons in hopes to be the savors of the Annunaki people. When they arrive, they begin their research immediately…one discovery leading to another. Before they realize the potential damage that they have caused, they have created things that have never been imagined. Could their new creations lead to unwanted warfare or will they succeed in discovering their original desires of the Annunaki people?

My favorite character is the Serpent Priestess Ninkha. She is characterized as a strong-willed, courageous and desired woman who shows the gifts of her people with utmost respect. Her ability to move worlds with her actions is uncanny and ultimately captivated my attention. My least favorite character is Lord Enlil. While he was never provided a fair chance like his brother, the evil that spreads through his body, mind and soul can not be unnoticed. Some of his actions broke my heart and made me despise his character. The realization that this author was able to draw this much emotion from me, made me respect the story as the chapters passed. I recommend this story to those who enjoy Science-Fiction and Fantasy novels. There are definitely several of creative and original ideas that are mentioned. The whole world along with the descriptions entailed by the author is utterly amazing! The names are a little too much to bear at first, but the story does pick up which allows the reader to follow without incomprehension. I rate this book with five stars because it is very well-written, interesting, highly-creative, and original. I can’t wait to read the next in the series called The Doom of Undal.

Review: Half-Soul by Katherine Rhodes

ABOUT THE BOOK: Hell called to his soul, but his soul resisted.  Or that’s what Asher Terhune believed.

Born from the demonic seduction of his human mother, his birth destroyed her marriage. They were left with only a Guardian and Watcher to protect them from his demon heritage. Born with a half-soul, Asher quickly learned to use the Seven Deadly Sins to fill the hole inside himself.

His favorite sin was Lust.

Women had no chance of a second night with Asher, once he was done with them. And he had no intention of changing his ways. Until the sweet, calm, caring Sarah Illfrig rocked his world, and refused his bed.

Asher found her refusal unacceptable and took on the challenge of seducing her. Sarah pushed him away even as the desire she felt for him was pulling her in.

But Sarah harbored her own secrets, and when the Guardian and the Watcher found out, it became imperative to keep Sarah and Asher apart.

**CONTENT WARNING: Contains adult language, m/m/f, and sexual situations and is intended for adult audiences only. 18+ Only**

BOOK LINKS: Amazon | Goodreads | Barnes & Noble | Kobo | iBooks

REVIEW: Half-Soul is sexy, steamy and delightfully sinful. Sarah is the new employee at a large corporation called PopWorld owned by Asher Terhune and his step-father, Gadreel. While there, she hears the rumors fly about what kind of reputation Asher has sustained. He is insatiable, gorgeous as hell, but emotionally unstable. He takes home whoever and whatever for a one-night stand and then they are fired or relocated the next morning. When Sarah learns something that may make her closeness to Asher and his Hellish desires unavoidable, she only knows that she doesn’t want to end up just like the others. Her new friends can’t help her either since they consist of an Angel, an ex-lover, a demon and a blood decedent of the Realm. All Sarah knows is that she feels unbelievably human when she is around him and it is absolutely intoxicating. Would she be foolish to think that he would change just for her? Vassago is my favorite character in this story. He is a demon, no pun intended. He was born a demon without a soul; however, he is not evil. In my opinion, he is a victim of his own survival. He is a gentleman and a guardian to Asher. Both Vassago and Gadreel stick together to protect Asher – how fitting to have an angel and demon working together for the safety of a man who is half-soul. I recommend Half-Soul to anyone, male and female, who enjoy paranormal/romance novels or erotica. I really enjoyed the plot and moral of this story and I look forward to the next of The Realm Series. This story has been rated with five stars because it was well-written, creative and original.

Review: Jaded by Desire by Desiree A Cox

25165859ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Nikki’s life was changing. She was in love, she was getting married, and she was going to have the baby that she never expected she’d have.

Everything was perfect.

Or was it?

Nikki’s love will be tested. Can their love survive the secrets that come out?

BOOK LINKS: Amazon | Goodreads | Barnes & Noble

REVIEW: This story picks up where Twisted by Desire concludes. Nikki is pregnant and Jeff is not happy about it. Over the course of time, he warms up to the idea that he will be a father. Jeff and Nikki become closer during the months leading up to the wedding; however, Nikki starts to feel insecure about everything. Not only does she start feeling insecure about her body as it continuously grows larger by the week, but now she gets to meet the coworker that Jeff is always out of town with on business. And…SHE is anything but the business type. What hasn’t he been telling her? I really enjoyed reading this story more so than the first in the series. Twisted by Desire gave me knots in my stomach regarding the way that Jeff spoke to Nikki. It was difficult to understand what she saw in him. More of the story came out in Jaded by Desire and I found out what was missing! The reader never had a chance to read about Jeff’s point of view. Jeff and Nikki go through a whirlwind of emotions through this story; however, the author allows you to see how it effects both of them. I was able to relate to the situations that they faced and my interests were peaked while I read further into the story. I didn’t really notice that I showed favoritism to any character although, they all seemed to have their own secrets in this one. Jaded by Desire is targeted to a female audience, in my opinion. I rate this one with five stars because it was well written and original; the characters also seemed to be more developed. There wasn’t as much sex which I enjoyed. Sometimes, I feel that too much sex can take away from a potentially great story but this was not the case here. I am excited to read the next in the series called Reclaimed by Desire which will be out in the summer of this year.

23245396ABOUT THE BOOK: Sky, Nikki’s ex-husband, has a hold on her heart.

Jeff occupies her thoughts.

Sky can provide Nikki unconditional love.

Jeff can offer her everything she thought she wanted.

Nikki is so confused! Her head’s telling her one thing, while her heart is sending another message.

But Nikki isn’t the only one who’s twisted by desire.

BOOK LINKS: Amazon | Goodreads | Barnes & Noble

REVIEW: This story jumps right in to Niki’s perception of her ex-husband, Sky. Even though she asked for the divorce, she can’t take the leap and stop having incredible, mind-blowing love-making sessions with the man. Love was never the issue with their marriage; it was always the laziness. He didn’t want to mature the way she thought that he would once they married each other and that was it. Abby was the only wonderful thing that they created together. With Sky always on her brain, she feels like she may have just walked out on her soul mate…then comes Jeff. Jeff rocks Niki’s world but has a lot of rules and neurotic tendencies. With only one golden rule implicated before dating, can Niki and Jeff really fall in love with each other or is it just a huge mistake? At first, it was really difficult for me to find an interest since the sex was a HUGE factor in Niki’s life. My lack of interest may be because I typically do not read Erotic Romance; however, I began to enjoy the story once the pace picked up towards the middle of the book. With the story starting to unfold with Niki’s new relationship with Jeff, I found that I just could not put it down! My favorite character in this one was Sky, the ex-husband. He seemed like he genuinely loved Niki and Abby to the fullest and always put their health and well-being before his own. I can definitely relate to the soul search and emotional twists that Niki goes through in trying to find what she wants despite what family and friends question. I recommend this story to those who enjoy reading Erotic Romance. I rate this with four stars since I did enjoy the moral of the story. I did feel like it was lacking something; however, the author is wonderfully talented and that shows in the writing style and detail that is placed into every scene written. I look forward to reading Jaded by Desire, the second in this series which picks up where this one concludes.

Review: Deadly Portfolio by John Hohn

12548515ABOUT THE BOOK: July 2008. Four families are riding high on heady market returns until the body of Rene McAllister, wife of multi-millionaire Alan “Mac” McAllister, washes up on the beach after a daylong Fourth of July bash at the home of stockbroker, Matthew Wirth. Eager to avoid publicity, authorities dismiss her death as an accident. Days later, when the body of college drop out, Jamie Sherman, a neighbor to Wirth, is discovered adrift in his fishing skiff, investigators suspect foul play, but the Medical Examiner reports that the youth died of a drug overdose. Only Detective James Raker, upon hearing McAllister’s complaints of unauthorized trading in his deceased wife’s account, suspects the two deaths are related. Bucking his superiors, Raker plunges into an investigation and quickly discovers that at least four members of the affluent lakeside community had motive and opportunity in either one or both of the deaths. Raker’s pursuit slams headlong into an investigation being conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) who were closing in on Jamie Sherman’s drug dealings in the affluent neighborhood. Ignoring the orders to back off, Raker fears that the killer will strike again and races to prevent it. The killer does strike for a third time but, tragically, claims the wrong victim. The story is set in the fictitious bed-room community on Heron Lake, NC, a short commute from Charles City, a metropolitan area of more than 1,000,000 and the financial center of the state.

REVIEW: This mystery novel is absolutely enticing! The story starts out with a drawn out explanation of what happened to the accounts and investments of multi-millionaire Allen McAllister and his wife, Rene McAllister. Matthew Wirth is the head of the brokerage firm holding the McAllister accounts and a good friend. With his retirement coming soon, he throws one last party in honor of his success and clientele on Independence Day. When Rene McAllister is found face down in the water the next day, everyone starts pointing fingers out of discomfort. Could one of their neighbors and friends be a cold-blooded killer or was it an accident? Detective Raker is in charge of covering the case; however, he just can’t shake the feeling that stories just don’t add up. I really enjoyed reading this wonderful novel. It really held my attention and made me want to finish it that much quicker! I thoroughly enjoyed all of the characters that played roles in this story, major and minor. Jamie was my favorite character in this novel. He was twenty-one years old, a drug dealer, but also smart about his business. My least favorite character was Mr. Sherman, the esteemed young doctor. He was never around for his children and it didn’t bother him. He was self-conscious and absorbed, making him seem very arrogant. This book does not have a gender specific target; therefore, I recommend it to a young adult and/or adult audience. I enjoyed it and feel like anyone who likes to read mystery novels would enjoy it as well. I rate this story with five stars because it is well written, creative, and original. I was able to relate to some of the characters in this story, which is something that I love!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: I am a small town boy. Born March 9, 1939, I grew up in Yankton, South Dakota, the last upstream steamboat stop on the Missouri River. Yankton’s history reaches back to the Sioux Nation, from which the town draws its name. Lewis and Clark parlayed with the Lakota there. Decades later, it became a jumping off point for homesteaders, a campsite for Custer, a territorial capital, and in the 1920’s, the home to WNAX radio that once boasted it broadcast from the highest radio tower in the world. Huckleberry Finn would have felt right at home under the shade of the Hackberry and Elm trees.

My own family’s history is intimately tied to the history of South Dakota. My grandfather, John Hubert Hohn, came to America from Germany as a boy of eleven-years-age. As a young man he homesteaded north and west of Yankton, staking out 360 acres that remain in the family today.

My father, Joseph M. Hohn, was the sixteenth child of a family of seventeen and the only one to receive a college education. He became a dentist and practiced in Yankton until his death in 1980. Dad and mom were veterans of the Dust Bowl. “Nobody had any money,” mother would explain. “Doc would get up in the morning and find a chicken and some turnips on the front porch from a patient as payment.“ Mother, Ileen Carlon Hohn, was an elementary school teacher. Mother followed Dad out of life in 1985. Of the three children born to them, I am the middle child.
